Babić

Babić

Babić is an indigenous red grape variety closely tied to central Dalmatia, particularly the areas around Šibenik and Primošten. Its most renowned vineyards lie on rocky slopes above the sea, often on steep terraces enclosed by dry stone walls, where the vines quite literally grow out of stone. These harsh conditions — poor soil, intense sun, and proximity to the sea — are what shape Babić’s distinctive character.

Wines made from Babić are deep in colour, full-bodied, and marked by a strong Mediterranean profile. On the nose and palate, you’ll often find ripe dark fruit, dried plums, spices, and a subtle mineral edge. While powerful and structured, a well-made Babić can also show surprising elegance and length, especially from the best sites.

Babić is a wine that speaks clearly of its origin — the sun, stone, and sea of Dalmatia. Traditionally paired with lamb, grilled meats, and rich Dalmatian dishes, it is increasingly finding its place in more refined, contemporary interpretations. Today, it is considered one of the most authentic red wines of Dalmatia and an important part of Croatia’s wine heritage.
